you CAN upgrade from 5.1 to 7.1 though too.thats exactly what i did, even though im using a homethreatre type sound setup with my system. before i did though, i only had like 3-4 feet of walking space, but, things are definetly more open now, just after moving things around some.ummm, as far as your system supporting either 5.1 or 7.1, it would entirely be dependant on your sound card.
